New project: Development of the device for evaluation technical condition and discard criteria for Umbilicals for ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) type device

Currently known and available devices and discard criteria are not suitable for evaluation of allowable lifetime of Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Umbilicals because of their specific construction.

The damage of Umbilicals can be the reason for breaking off the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and its loss or the emergence of critical damage of the Umbilicals, preventing the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) from being used.

The implementation of the project will be based on carrying out properly designed laboratory and operational tests and developing theoretical and empirical models for determining the main properties of Umbilicals.

It involves identifying the process of their progressive wear due to working in conditions of cyclic bending and variable tensile loads in the unfavorable environment.

The goals of this project:

The final result of the project will be the development of the discard criteria for the Umbilicals in its communication and control part as well as the development of the world’s first equipment for inspecting all parts of Umbilicals with an automatic evaluation of the technical condition of Umbilicals based on the implemented discard criteria.

Project co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Intelligent Development Programme. The project is implemented under the competition of the National Centre for Research and Development: Fast Track.
